Where Should I Stay for Clinical?
All Blended Learning students are required to be in residence for their clinical courses, which take place during the final two months of the program. Students are responsible for securing their own housing, but can choose to stay downtown on the Chicago campus, or elsewhere in the vicinity. Students who reside in nearby Evanston may use their Student ID to board the NU Intercampus Shuttle, which runs from early morning until late at night every weekday.

The University Housing offices offer the following options:

Chicago Campus: Abbott Hall
Located one block from NUPOC, Abbott Hall offers some furnished studio and one-bedroom apartments to graduate students on a first-come, first-served basis. Priority is given to students with spouses, partners, and/or dependent children.

Evanston Campus: Engelhart Hall

Located on the Evanston Campus, Engelhart Hall has furnished studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments. Housing rates include utilities, campus phone, data service and basic cable.

Off-Campus Housing (Apartments)

In addition to residence halls, Northwestern Housing keeps listings of apartments that are made available to students on a regular basis. The list is updated regularly and is subject to change with availability.

Other Housing Resources
At NUPOC, we realize that finding temporary housing can be difficult for many people, especially from a different city.  The following is a list of resources many people have used, to varying degrees of success. While we cannot take responsibility for securing your housing, we will do what we can to provide resources for housing that will be reasonably close to NUPOC and provide the facilities you need.

When searching for an apartment, keep in mind NUPOC's location -- 345 East Superior Street -- and that our neighborhood is often referred to as "Streeterville."

The Chicago Reader
The Reader's "Spacefinder" section has been used for years in Chicago for apartment hunters. From the main page, select "Apartments" on the left-hand navigation bar. You can choose to search by general area ("City Central"), neighborhood ("Gold Cst, Streeterville"), or zip code (60611).

Craigslist - Chicago
Craigslist is a marvelous resource for many things, from housing to furniture, jobs to services. Ads are updated daily by users. In addition to looking in "Apartments & Housing," it's a good idea to check under "Sublets/Temporary." You may also choose to post a free ad seeking temporary housing. Hint: use Craigslist's anonymizing e-mail contact option to protect your e-mail address.

The Apartment People
If you decide to come to Chicago to look at apartments, you might want to call The Apartment People and make an appointment to see them. Their area of expertise is really traditional lease termed apartments, but they can often take you to see several apartments in a morning or afternoon, so you can get the lay of the land.

Apartment Ratings Apartment Reviews
If you've narrowed down some options or just want to do a little more research on existing apartment buildings, check out these sites. Just make sure when you're reading a review to check the dates -- old reviews may not reflect changes made by management.

BJB Properties
BJB is known in the Chicagoland area for reasonable rents, good service, and decent amenities.
