These Research Projects Need Volunteers
Are You a Farmer or Rancher with an Arm or Leg Amputation?
Online research surveys are being conducted to learn how we can improve prostheses for farmers and ranchers with an arm or leg amputation. Farmers and ranchers with an upper- or lower-limb amputation are invited to take a 15-minute survey about their prosthetic components and how well they perform in farm or ranch work.

Are You Walking with a Brace or Artificial Limb?
Research studies are being conducted at the Northwestern University Chicago campus. Adult volunteers who walk with an ankle-foot orthosis (AFO) or lower limb prosthesis are needed for investigations of walking.

Development of a Database for Pathological Ambulators
Research studies involving walking with prosthetic and orthotic devices are being conducted through the Northwestern University Prosthetics-Orthotics Center (NUPOC).

Effect of Spine Surgery on Energy Expenditure of Walking
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of surgery on the effort and efficiency of walking in patients with degenerative spine disease. We are recruiting people between 18 and 80 years who have been diagnosed with a spinal pathology and require surgery.

Mediolateral Stability in Post-Stroke Hemiplegic Gait: Dynamic Influences of Ankle-Foot-Orthoses and Torso-Weighting
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the dynamic influences of ankle-foot-orthoses (AFO) on walking at varying step widths whilwearing AFO and without AFO.We are recruiting people between 18 and 65 years who have chronic post-stroke hemiplegia for more than one year. Each participant must wear an articulated AFO and be able to walk for 12 meters without the orthosis or other assistive device.
