NUPOC offers intensive continuing education and postgraduate courses to rehabilitation professionals who serve persons with physical disabilities, including physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, orthotists, prosthetists, and pedorthists. Prosthetics-Orthotics for Physicians & Therapists
Date: April 9-12th 2024
Prosthetics-Orthotics for Physicians & Therapists is a comprehensive four-day course that covers the essential knowledge and skills needed to collaborate with an interprofessional clinical team providing orthotic & prosthetic care. Engaging lectures and interactive clinical experiences featuring actual patients provides a review of pathologies, patient assessment, prescription development, and biomechanics needed to treat patients that require upper and lower limb prosthetic care in addition to orthotic management of the head/trunk/spine, upper limb, and lower limb. Our distinguished course faculty is comprised of board-certified physiatrists, surgeons, physical/occupational therapists, and prosthetist/orthotists engaged in education, clinical practice, and research. The course includes an extensive digital manual that will be available for download.
Course Topics Include:
- Pre-prosthetic and post-amputation care
- Normal human locomotion
- Upper limb prosthetic management
- Partial foot prosthetic management
- Transtibial and transfemoral prosthetic management
- Prosthetic management of hip disarticulation and hemipelvectomy
- Pathologic gait and pedorthic management
- Ankle-Foot (AFO) & Knee-Ankle-Foot (KAFO) Orthoses
- Orthotic management of acute spinal pathologies and deformities

Our distinguished course faculty is comprised of board-certified physicians, physical/occupational therapists, engineers, and prosthetist/orthotists engaged in education, clinical practice, and research. The course includes an extensive digital manual that will be available for download.

- Movement science and motor control concepts
