 Research Prosthetist-Orthotist

The Research Prosthetist-Orthotist will support the research agenda of the Northwestern University Prosthetics-Orthotics Center. The laboratory is actively engaged in multiple projects related to prosthetics, orthotics, and rehabilitation engineering and science. The Research Prosthetist-Orthotist will primarily be responsible for fabricating and fitting prostheses and orthoses on individuals participating in research studies. Additionally, they will assist in the design, development, and evaluation of prosthetic and orthotic components as well as assume a role in the dissemination of research results. The position will also assist in conducting experiments assessing human performance with prostheses and orthoses, including recruitment efforts and coordination/scheduling of research subjects for data collection sessions, as well as providing input on the analysis and interpretation of study results.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in Prosthetics-Orthotics (or an equivalent degree) or the equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
  • ABC certified in prosthetics and orthotics practice (i.e., CPO).
  • Two years of clinical practice experience in prosthetics and orthotics.

Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine seeks a full-time, non-tenure-eligible Team Scientist at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor for research and education opportunities at the Northwestern University Prosthetics-Orthotics Center (NUPOC). 

The Northwestern University Prosthetics-Orthotics Center (NUPOC) in Chicago is seeking applications for a full-time, non-tenure-eligible Team Scientist at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor for research and education opportunities. NUPOC operates a Masters in Prosthetics and Orthotics clinical education program and houses the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center Motion Analysis Research Laboratory, a state-of-the-art laboratory for biomechanical measurement of human movement. 

Ideal candidates will have obtained a Doctorate degree from accredited university. A Doctorate in an Engineering specialty, Prosthetics-Orthotics, or related discipline is strongly preferred. At least 2 years of Postdoctoral research experience is required.
